Harry and the Cat is a mythological story that shows the reader how to step back into the paradise that the Natives of North America and every child have always known. The Garden of Eden is all around us. This is where happiness resides. To step into happiness one only needs to take a walk through a forest, or along a sea shore, or in a desert, or climb a mountain, or sit under a tree.
This story is also a reminder that if we hope to save our children’s home in this Earth, we must first learn to develop a relationship with Her. We must fall in love with Her. People will do great things for those they love.
Because we are all children. Or we once were.
Because in our life of paying career bills that sometimes cost us what our spiritual friends term as our "soul," beneath all of whatever confusion we are experiencing, we are a people filled with hope.
We remember what we knew as children.
That when we wish for something it will come true through methods we don't understand.
We will have a life that we love.
But we don't live in such a place. Not unless we leave home.
We live in a world of what Socrates called City States. Communities of people walled away from the forests that gave them birth. We are a people who have sealed ourselves from the source. We live in rooms of cement, steel, and glass, that sit behind more cubicles that keep the One who created us from giving us the beauty which we crave.
So we find ways to drive the craving away.
We dive into pleasures that cause our body to sit in near painless wonder, while just beneath those moments of mindless happiness, lives still that constant hunger.
Nothing can fill this but the One who created us. The Earth.
Martial Arts is a subject I have studied for a long time. The study of self defense is a practice of learning how to fill that hunger with a sense of knowing that we belong. It is only a step in the right direction.
Among the teachers of martial art forms lives a very powerful community.
The Taoist. Their message was clear. If you want to become someone fully alive and very powerful, get connected to the Earth. The Taoist say that a person separated from nature is a person without air.
Their highest wisdom is this. If you wish to breath in your power again, take a walk into a forest.
This is a story of all our beginnings as children. Where all thoughts and then beliefs originate. A story of learning how to return to our Mother, and then to allow her love to enter into our bodies.
Harry and the Cat is every person's story. It is the story we each knew as children.
