Sitting on Ascentias’ bedroom packed earth floor Stella let her eyes rest on Bran’s unconscience form glowing in the cool silver light of the moon pouring in from the window above his head. A memory came to her.
Since she was five her father would give her this one lecture, in many different ways, and each year it got more complicated, but essentially, the truth remained simple. It was the core awareness of a healer. Her earliest memory of this story was one that took place around the dinner fire.
It started like this.
"All life is connected to the earth as the source. The earth," her father once explained, "is one living organism, one living being."
“We,” he said pointing at himself and Stella and the others around the fire, “we, are the earth. And she is us. A person could no more consider themselves separate from the earth than one would think of an eye or ear or finger as something in any way separate from the body. If the hand has been injured, the hand must rely on the rest of the body to produce what is necessary to heal that hand. The hand must rely on the heart to pump the nutrient rich blood to deliver what is needed and the same blood will carry away the poisons the injury creates.
If we get injured then we first ask the earth to bring us what is needed to be healed."
Stella moved her knee up and rested her arm across it. She sucked on a piece of straw from Brans bed as the memory of this one conversation played itself in this cool blue space of the room.
“Also,” her father’s voice continue through her memory, “as there is a physical body to each person, there is also an energetic, or emotional body that lives in the realm of each of our beliefs. This energy is something we call 'faith.' The physical body is overlapped by this energetic body. That is what we call the soul of a person. It is where their faith lives. Their beliefs about what is good and not good. When a person believes in the goodness of life, they have faith. When the body is injured, their energetic body or their faith in the goodness of life has also been injured. And in the same way that an injured limb becomes numb from shock, so too the faith of a person, becomes paralyzed until it is able to take in the new information and assimilate it into the rest of the beliefs in a way that brings back new balance.
When the faith that life is good has been injured, the person’s thoughts shut down their memory. Their faith in the safety and goodness of life travels to another world. In order for that person to love their life, the lost memory must be found and repaired or the person will remain physically as well as emotionally injured. When a person no longer believes that the life they live is good, then they will experience an inability to perform any task. Their days become dreary. Depressed. It is as though the spirit of the person has left, even though they breath and move.”
In one of these early memories of this dinner talk her mom had served round bread, which her father used to help illustrate this concept.
He took one round loaf and as he was slicing it he said, “A person’s energy field, or their beliefs that tell them who they are, is like this round bread.” He took a knife and cut radiating slices into it. “When injury occurs to a bone, then there is also a corresponding injury to the energy body. Their faith in the goodness of life is missing. When the faith is damaged, their focus is dispersed, and when focus is not present, they are prone to make mistakes. Those mistakes, in our world, show up as miscalculations that will cause one to miss a hand hold, or not step out of the way of the path of a kicking horse, or accept an illness. Lack of faith, lack of confidence, lack of focus means injury. Luck can only carry a persons so far. That inner injury to one's faith is something like removing a slice of the bread and placing it in a far away world.”
Her father then carved a slice out of the loaf, placed it on his leaf plate, and then floated the plate behind him, so that it could not be seen. “Daughter, know this. If you wish to heal a person from an illness, you must also find the source of the injury in their inner beliefs. These network of interlacing beliefs are what give the person the confidence to take the necessary actions that allow them to live through a day. From the moment they place their feet on the floor of their bed to the moment they fall back into that bed with the exhaustion that comes from a full days work.”
Her father looked at his daughter for a few seconds. “The healer must journey to that place where the injured confidence has fled. But before she can find that injured part and bring it home to the patient, the healer must clean the debris of the parasites that have entered the empty space. These parasites will appear in a persons beliefs in the form of despair, jealousy, or an unquenchable hatred. The healer, through meditation removes these energies, and replaces them with the healer’s confidence. It is the same as cleaning a wound with clean cool water and alcohol, and then cauterizing it before applying the bandages. Once this is done, the healer takes their own energy, their own confidence, and fills that empty space. The healer lends the patient his own faith.”
Her father then cut a slice out of the second loaf of bread, and placed it on the empty section of the first loaf. “Once done, the healer travels into the other world where everything is pure energy, pure spirit, the inner world, and finds the part of the soul of the person to return it. The healer finds the missing piece and brings it back to the emptiness and replacing that which had been lost.” He said this as he lifted the new slice before her and placed it next to the whole pie. Then he took his knife and lifted the slice off the plate and settled it into the empty space, making the pie whole again.”
Stella smiled at this memory. So simply said. So profoundly true. She looked up at Bran. Everything in her understood that she could help him heal. She had no choice. And even if she did, she would choose this place near him.
Her father's voice continued to play through her thoughts. “When you help another person heal, then your energy and theirs is connected through your awareness. Often a patient and healer will form a friendship that is soul deep. They have traveled the journey together.”
This is what Stella thought as the moon light slowly traveled across Bran’s fevered body.
She thought about what could have damaged Bran’s confidence that would allow the illness to enter.
